September Begins Fair Season

September is the month of fairs and festivals. Go see what’s happening around Ottawa.

The Richmond Fair kicks it off September 15 through September 18. It’s located on the Richmond Fairgrounds just under fifteen minutes from Stittsville. Kids will enjoy the petting farm and pony rides along with free entertainment at Kiddyland. Check out trade shows, cattle, horse and sheep shows along with exhibits featuring antiques in motion.

September 22 begins the 148th annual Carp Fair. This four day event, twenty minutes from Kanata, will offer draft sheep, cattle and horse shows, heavy horse pulls, petting zoos and food. Live entertainment includes Joe Diffie, Tanya Tucker, The Original Stampeders and more.

The 155th Metcalfe Fair, from September 29 to October 2 will have a demolition derby, step dancing, live stock shows and a 4H championship show. Just ten minutes away from the community of Greely. Entertainers include Sterling, D.W. James, Just One More, Tara Oram and Diamond Heart.

Finally the much anticipated Ottawa International Animation Festival starts September 21 through September 25.

Screenings will take place in Bytowne Cinema, the National Gallery of Canada, Empire Theatres at Rideau Centre and the Arts Court Theatre, about ten minutes from Centretown. Programs will focus on animation in hip hop, Cartoon Fight Club, and a look into the works of animators Mati Kutt, Aaron Augenblick and Gil Alkabetz.

There will also be workshops for kids to learn how to create animation.

Prices range from $55 for a day pass to $540 for the TAC AnimaPass, which allows full access to networking events, luncheons, screenings, presentations, workshops and special events.
