It would be very surprising to meet someone from Ottawa, who has never heard of the restaurant Beckta. Steve Beckta, a native of the city, was able to climb the ladder in the culinary world, and today can be recognized as the owner of the most famous restaurants in Ottawa or even, Canada. Previously located in a small house on Nepean Street, the restaurant is known for its gourmet fine dining and it’s local and fresh ingredients. Now located at 150 Elgin Street, Beckta still offers the same culinary experience, but this time, more spacious and ready to accommodate any occasion, be it small or large.
On arrival at the restaurant, a rather chic decor but still, a comfortable feeling arises. Then three different dining experiences are available; for the first, make your way to the back of the house, where the wine bar is located. The wine bar is an ideal place for those who want to eat and drink tasty food and drinks, but without really attaching a special occasion to the visit. The second experience is that of offering a fixed price menu. It consist of choosing three dishes, either an appetizer, a starter and a dessert. This option is perfect for those who do not really like surprises and prefer to know what will await them in their plates. Finally, the last option is the one which, in my opinion, is the most exciting. It consists of a rather creative tasting as it is “semi-blind”. On the menu it is possible to see scattered 12 words on the page. Each word consists of a rather luxurious food that has the predominant ingredient of the dish, eg: lobster, duck, foie gras or even blue cheese. Knowing only the main ingredient of the dish, each course, is a completely new surprise! Each experience has the opportunity to be accompanied by a wine pairing.
Whether it’s for a dinner with your co-worker in the wine bar or to celebrate a special occasion, whether it is big or small, in the dining room with the tasting menu, the new Beckta always leaves you with an unforgettable experience.
Nouveau Beckta – Même cuisine – Souvenirs inoubliables
Il serait très surprenant de rencontrer quelqu’un d’Ottawa, qui n’a jamais entendu parler du restaurant Beckta. Steve Beckta, originaire de la ville, a su grimper l’échelle du monde culinaire et aujourd’hui peut être reconnu comme étant l’un des propriétaires des restaurants les plus célèbres d’Ottawa, voire, le Canada. Antérieurement situé dans une petite maison sur la rue Nepean, le restaurant est reconnu pour ses repas raffinés gastronomiques et ses ingrédients mouvants locaux et frais. Maintenant situé à 150 rue Elgin, Beckta offre toujours la même expérience culinaire, mais cette fois, plus spacieuse et prête à accommoder n’importe quelle occasion, qu’elle soit petite ou grande.
À l’arrivée au restaurant, un décor plutôt chic mais quand même confortable se présente. Ensuite, trois différentes expériences culinaires sont offertes; la première consiste tout simplement de se rendre à l’arrière de la maison, où se trouve le bar à vin. Le bar a vin est un endroit idéal pour celui qui a envie de biens manger et boire, mais sans vraiment y rattacher une occasion spéciale. La deuxième expérience offerte est celle du menu à prix fixe. Il s’agit de choisir 3 plats, soit un apéritif, une entrée et un dessert. Cette option est parfaite pour tous ceux qui n’aiment pas vraiment les surprises et préfère connaitre ce qui va les attendre dans leurs assiettes. Finalement, la dernière option est celle qui, d’après moi, est la plus excitante. Elle consiste d’une dégustation plutôt créative puisqu’elle est « semi-aveugle ». Sur le menu, il est possible d’apercevoir 12 mots éparpiller sur la page. Chaque mot représente un aliment plutôt luxueux qui comprend l’ingrédient prédominant du plat, par exemple : homard, canard, foie gras ou même fromage bleu. Ne sachant que l’ingrédient principal du plat, dans chaque assiette, une nouvelle surprise ! Aussi, chaque expérience à l’opportunité d’y rattacher une accompagnement de vin.
Donc, que ce soit pour un diner avec un de vos camarades de travaille dans le bar à vin ou pour célébrer une occasion spéciale dans la salle à manger avec le menu de dégustation, le nouveau Beckta se montre toujours prometteurs.
